I am a rule follower and occasionally I even tattle tale. So go ahead and call me a good two shoes now.
At the preschool my kids are at I work in Hannah's classroom with two other parents. One is a easy going mom the other is a very interesting dad. He talks our ears off about all sorts of things that have little to no relevance to us. But he is friendly enough and does his job. He is one of those guys who likes to think of himself as tough, even cool, I think it goes along with being a prison guard. He even refers to himself as a clean freak, says that raking the sand is enough for him to want a cigarette. Whatever.
So two weeks ago when we worked together. I thought he looked like he was chewing tobacco. Gross enough to do at home but around the kids? Please. Then a little later he actually takes out his can and puts another dip in right in front of me. So after school little miss goody two shoes tell the president, who tells the director and they decide to put a reminder in the bulletin its against state law to have tobacco on a school campus. Duh. Well Hannah's teacher who has know this guy for a long time decided to talk to him about it.
This week when we worked together. He wouldn't talk to us, or even look at us. He sat in the room while we were prepping for class with his sunglasses on playing with his cell phone with an angry look on his face. I started to think something is up. After I went home I decided that when I went back to school I was going to tell him I basically told on him about the tobacco but that he should know better. I got all ready to talk to him today, but he wasn't there. I asked the president "did you guys mention the tobacco thing to "bob", because the was acting totally weird?" She told me how the chain of events happened to lead their family to quiting over the whole thing.
Part of me felt guilty. The other part thinks we are better off with out this guy around. If you are not intelligent enough to know better than to chew tobacco at a preschool, you are not ready to help teach children.
