Hero of the Day

The hero around our house is Dad.

Dad leaves for a few days then he comes home. He is worshiped and missed. Meanwhile mom is home everyday. She keeps the schedules, the routines, the discipline going. There are clean clothes, warm food, and wiped noses. It's the daily grind. I don't mind, I even enjoy my job. I know where I stand, I am not the hero.

Dad comes home, everybody stays up late, NASCAR is watched, they get to play outside helping him do yard work. Jerry took James to preschool the other day, what an adventure for James. The first thing he shared in group time is that "dad brought me to school today". When I showed up to pick him up he almost started crying. Jeez, thanks.

It can get frustrating when no one is cheering your name and running to you as fast as they can. But when I do get away, I miss them like crazy and they usually seem happy to see me again.

So true! And I was even labeled "selfish," by my 4.5 yr old yesterday ... and then "lazy," today. Okay -- she's working on just HOW to use those words correctly and has quickly learned how NOT to use them : )
