glass 1/2 ...
In the spirit of trying to blog again. I will give you two posts in one day.
Most of my ingenious posts come to me while nursing. I think when I nurse. Especially at night when it is quiet. If I have been woken up I will just try to remain asleep and not think about anything.
I was thinking about something someone else had written today in an email. It was one of those questionnaires that you fill out and forward to all you friends. On of the questions was are you a glass 1/2 full or empty person.
I got to thinking about this. Deep in my heart I wish I could say full. But I might lean towards empty most of the time.
Why?
I have a beautiful family, a husband who I love and is good to me, a home, a secure job for him, and our health. Why am I perturbed most of the time? Can this feeling be contagious?
I think back to the trials of the last few years. One of the major obstacles for our family has been Jerry's injury. Did it change our outlook on life? Did we or me become pessimistic after it? It totally stinks but we are still battling the workman's comp and the Drs and the adjusters for treatment. Jerry doesn't think he can snowboard, wakeboard, golf, work out, etc. anymore.
Or is it that I have my hands full? Three kids 4 and under, not really easy street. But, when I look at them with a conscious attitude they take my breath away. They are amazing kids. We are blessed to have them. Time management and battles over toys are just part of the game. But do these daily battles take so much out of me that I am a crab?
Could it be something I was raised with. Maybe part of my personality or my sign? What really makes you a positive person verses a negative one?

Diapers
Am I crazy? I am actually thinking very hard about using cloth diapers.
Well a combination of cloth and disposable liners. I am trying to wrap my head around what it would actually involve. Laundry, initial expense, night time, traveling, etc.
The reasons I would consider it, better for the earth, and overall savings.
I don't know...

Did I sign up for this?
Is it a requirement of motherhood to repeat everything you say 10 times?
I am SO Bill Cosby, come here, come here, come here.
Then there is the game of why.
Fun!

personalities
Are we born with our personality as is or is it shaped through our environment? My two kids have very different personalities. They both are great as is. But I also look forward to watching them grow and to see if they change or stay just the same.
Have you ever noticed how some families have a kid with a personality that makes you wonder where did they come from? Everyone lives in the same environment but this one person is different and quite possibly misunderstood. I feel bad for the parents who try to change that kid. They just end up making everyone misserable.
I wonder how our number three will fit in. Will this one fall into the difficult third child mold? Is this one going to be the child that tests all of my nerves? It's going to be a fun ride. Especially if Mr. Questions is still going strong and Miss cling to momma still exists.

Inspired
I am trying to decided the point of having name brands on my shoes, jeans, sunglasses, purses, watches, etc. When I run with the crowd that I do (3 & 1 year olds) will the designer inspired brands work? I think so. This coming from someone who really only shops a target and Costco. I am not someone who will pay much for any one thing. Cumulatively they add up to lots, but I definitely have a breaking point for one item.
All this comes from a looking at watches on ebay, I know you get what you pay for, but $10,000 for a watch, when there is a knock off for $40? I don't know, sounds crazy to me. I probably wouldn't wear my nice things afraid that they would break. Where is the joy in that. My philosophy on items that I listed above is to buy inexpesive, wear it, enjoy life and if the kids break it, oh well.

Me Time??
I have been pondering the whole concept of "me time" lately.
First off, I am wondering what I did with myself before I had children. I know I worked, cleaned, and exercised. But did I truly appreciate being able to take a shower whenever I wanted. Did I understand the luxury of quiet & sleeping in?
I am also wondering where the whole idea of "me time" came into motherhood. We are moms by choice right? Why do we hear so much about our rights to "me time". Is it because at the end of the day we are shouting if I don't get a little peace and quiet there will be no more mom around?
Jerry laughed at me when I said that he had time to himself while working and driving. I know it doesn't seem fair to tell him that when he is in traffic he is getting his "me time". But when is the last time I got to sit in absolute quiet in a car? And why hasn't my brain just adjusted to the craziness of motherhood yet?
My job is to take care of my children and my house, right? So when I work all day cleaning and the children mess up the clean house they have just undone my work. How frustrating would it be for some office worker to do his job all day then have some co-worker come by and mess everything up?
Most days I don't even care about "me time". I care more about "sleep time". But I have been getting up early to work out, shower, & blog (nice priorities, I know) and I guess if I want a little "me time" I better get up before my work does.
Its a funny balance of pitty parties and pure joy being a mother. I really wouldn't change a thing, well maybe I might try to schedule more "me time". HA! That means both James & Hannah better start napping at the same time.
